Mat / Chair Pilates In-person
Small group session in two locations with Abigail
Service Description
Small group session in two location, Saltford and Chargrove. Suitable for people with restricted mobility or with a condition, for people who need to recover from an injury, or clients who need rehabilitation after an accident. We do a 30 min lower to middle intensity exercise routine to music on a chair in either a sitting, kneeling or side-laying position. The second part of the session is a series of traditional Mat Pilates exercises at low pace with ambient, relaxing, chill out music in the background. We use a wooden, upright, stable kitchen chair, the usual Pilates soft ball or a pillow for aiding your lower back, a 2 m long resistance band and a Pilates block or a book. At the beginning of this class we are sitting, using a Pilates soft ball or a cushion for supporting your lumbar region and start self-massaging our lower back, feeling the compression between the ball and the chair, then we begin mobilising each body-part and building up the challenge level of each movement. Sometimes we use an elastic band for more resistance and a Pilates block or a thick book under the feet. The upright seated position helps you to achieve an optimal posture, strengthens your muscles and tones your body whilst reducing aches and pains on your hips, because you don’t need to stand for an extended period of time.We can still do a wide range of motion whilst seated such as bending forwards, rotation of your torso, lateral flexion and even some circumduction with your limbs. In a chair-Pilates session we stand up as well and use the chair as support for balance or as an assisting tool for standing on one leg, doing some squats and lunges. In the middle of the session we then go down onto the mat and do some mat-Pilates sequences. This session brings relief to the whole body and mind using the correct breathing technique, when your breathing incorporates a nice smooth flowing movement. We perform some static, dynamic, active and passive stretching exercises at the end of the session, which assist your metabolism, blood circulation, and flexibility throughout the whole body.
